![]() ![]() By 1949, Sunset Ladder had a well established business manufacturing wooden ladders and planks both for sale and rental. Ostergard opened a second bigger and more strategically located warehouse in South El Monte, California. With the leftover proceeds from the sale of the Sunset Blvd property Mr. New development to the east of Los Angeles made for a great opportunity. The Sunset Boulevard property was quite valuable at the time so it was sold and the company moved just one block south. With the building boom of the Los Angeles area well under way Sunset Ladder became a important supplier to the construction trade as well as the movie studios.Ī fire in 1943 destroyed the company’s buildings along with many other surrounding businesses. With the requirement for ladders and scaffolding equipment steadily growing and the expansion of Hollywood and it's Movie industry Grant found ladders were in great demand. Grant Ostergard for the tidy sum of $300.00. Shortly after the Great Depression the original founder sold the fledgling Company to Mr. Wooden ladders and scaffold planks became more popular and the other products were discontinued. After a brief foray into furniture manufacturing ladder products were added. The Sunset Ladder Company was established on the infamous Sunset Blvd in 1929.
